Bird flu vaccine test dose increased

A VACCINE against the deadly bird flu virus will be tested on Australians in larger doses after initial trials proved it was safe and effective.

Fed: Perth scientists have begun a trial of the human vaccine against the lethal H5N1 virus, developed by Melbourne pharmaceutical manufacturer CSL.

The vaccine is the only one of its type being developed in the southern hemisphere and could prove a powerful weapon in the fight against bird flu, which has so far killed nearly 100 people in Asia and the Middle East.
