Bolivia enhances security measures against bird flu in airports
People's Daily Online
May 20, 2006

Bolivia would reinforce security measures in all airports across the country as part of the efforts to combat possible avian influenza outbreaks, the Bolivian Health Ministry said on Friday.

Bolivia was heeding recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO), said Vice Health Minister Juan Nogales.
In June or July, a national contingency program will go into effect to fight possible outbreaks of bird flu.

The highly pathogenic H5N1 strain of the virus, lethal for human beings, has not been detected in Bolivia.

According to the WHO, the confirmed worldwide human death toll from the H5N1 strain has reached 122 so far.
