MINEPIA organised a meeting to re-launch poultry activities recently at the conference centre in Yaounde.

The discovery of the H5N1 virus, the worst form of bird flu, in the Far North province caused a psychosis of fear among Cameroonians leading to a drastic drop in the consumption of chicken. This almost put poultry farmers out of business as they began auctioning their products for fear of spread of the disease. However, with the containment of the disease by the government, people have begun having chicken once more on their dinning table. But due to the losses poultry farmers incurred during the avian flu scare, the resumption of production has been slow and painful. The reason why the ministry of Livestock, Fishery and Animal Husbandry on May 23, at the conference center in Yaounde, organized a meeting to re-launch activities of the sector.
