China says bird flu outbreak under control

China has said its first bird flu outbreak among poultry since February is under control.

The Ministry of Agriculture said the new H5N1 outbreak was on a farm in China's northwestern Xinjiang region, with an unspecified number of domestic poultry killed by the virus.

More than 17,100 poultry were slaughtered to prevent any further outbreaks and the area had been disinfected, the Xinhua news agency said Friday, quoting agriculture ministry sources.
