The European Commission will open an investigation into state aid granted by Italy to prop up its poultry sector, hit by falling sales due to consumer fears about bird flu, the EU executive said on Tuesday.
"The European Commission has today decided to launch an investigation into the measures taken to deal with the bird flu crisis in Italy," it said in a statement.
