North Africa lacks the means to effectively monitor and prevent the arrival of bird flu, experts told a meeting here this week.

"The competence is there. Knowledge is at a satisfactory level. But there is a glaring lack of means," Arnaud le Menach, a delegate from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, told AFP as a six-day meeting involving five countries drew to a close Friday.
